Door Panel Edge Dent Removed with PDR

One of the most annoying things for a car owner in Rochester, NY, is to come back to a parked car and find a dent or ding on the door. You’ll typically find this damage in parking lots, where other cars park too close to yours and ding your door as they swing open theirs.

Similar dents and dings can occur when you swing your door open and hit something you didn’t see was there. You may also have a minor accident at an intersection with a cyclist or biker who dings your car door.

Dents and dings on your car are never good, but door panel edge dents are particularly difficult to remove, especially if you want paintless dent repair (PDR).

What is PDR?

If you didn’t already know, paintless dent repair or PDR is the latest and best type of dent removal technique. It restores your car to its original form, unlike conventional dent repair, which uses scraping, filling, and repainting to repair dents and dings.

When it comes to door panel edge dent removal, you need the most skilled and experienced PDR technician because these dents can be quite tricky. An amateur or inexperienced PDR technician may crack or damage the original paint during the restoration process.

You need someone like Dan “the Dent Guy” in Rochester, NY. With over 30 years of automotive experience, he is the most skilled and experienced PDR professional in New York.

The PDR Process for Door Panel Edge Dent

First, the car is cleaned to remove excess dirt and grime. Then, Dan uses a special PDR UV light to highlight the damage on your door panel. It reveals every small discrepancy on the panel. Depending on your car’s model, Dan will find the appropriate access behind the damaged door panel and start working.

He uses the best PDR tools, some heat, and his hands to skillfully and strategically push and pull the panel in the right places. He makes sure that no matter how tricky the door panel edge dent is, the paint doesn’t crack, costing you your chance for PDR.

Dan’s immense experience and PDR skills come in handy in such situations. Once he is done, your door panel is completely restored, and no one can find any trace of damage, tampering, or repairs.

The Benefits of PDR

Unlike conventional dent repair from traditional auto body shops, PDR has many benefits for you and your car.

  • Quick Service

PDR only takes a few hours, not days. For most dents and dings, including door panel edge dents, you can drive off with your car on the same day.

  • Pocket-Friendly Restoration

Since there are no material expenses like paint and filler, PDR costs you less than conventional dent repair, which may require you to repaint and work on adjacent body panels.

  • Retains Originality and Resale Value

PDR does not tamper with the original factory paintwork of your car. It simply restores the damage on the panel. With PDR, your car retains its originality and resale value.

The Dent Guy Offers the Best Door Panel Edge Dent Removal

It isn’t uncommon for most PDR technicians to reject door edge panel dents for paintless dent repair. They are not skilled or experienced enough to handle such a tricky job. The Dent Guy is different because he has immense experience with such dents on various car models.

Not only can he perform PDR on such dents, but he can also give you immaculate results that are hard to believe. This is one of the many reasons Dan offers the best PDR in New York. When opting for PDR from the Dent Guy in Rochester, NY, you also get 100 percent customer satisfaction and free estimates for your dents and dings.

Dent Repair Cost Estimate: What It Involves

Regardless of how well you drive or how careful you are, minor accidents are inevitable. Dents and dings on cars are an expected occurrence in a place like Rochester, New York. You could be parked in a parking lot, and the car next to you only needs to open its door a little farther to leave a dent on your car.

Sometimes, if you leave your car out during a hailstorm, it experiences several small and large dents, and you need hail damage repair.

These are just a few instances of when you may need dent repair. However, you must always opt for paintless dent repair (PDR) from a trusted, certified technician like Dan, The Dent Guy. He is a certified professional with years of experience.

When you visit The Dent Guy, you can expect a quick and accurate cost estimate as well. Let’s discuss dent repair cost estimate and what it entails by taking the example of a single dent.

The Process of Getting a Dent Repair Estimate

When you first arrive with your car, you can expect to be greeted with a smile by an eager professional (Dan) ready to help you out. While Dan is a seasoned expert who can give you a rough estimate simply by looking at your car’s damage, he prefers to take the more accurate and standardized route.

He’ll start by getting your vehicle’s make and model to look up its information. This allows him to get specific information about what type of metal he’s dealing with in your car and if there are any difficult panels to access in your particular model.

He will then shine a special PDR UV light on your car’s damage and use a line board reflection to measure the dent. The UV light is important because it highlights even the smallest imperfections on your car’s body panels that are not easily visible to the naked eye.

If there is more than one dent on your car, this measurement is repeated individually for each one. Dan will also check for access behind the dents and dings of your car. Easy access makes the repair easier and faster because it means that he can also use the push technique for repairs.

Once the measurement and access are out of the way, he can start with your quote. Using an industry-standard software called Mobile Tech RX, he’ll add the dent’s size and depth to start calculating. The software uses the size and depth of the dent to get a base price.

Next, additional factors relating to the dent are added to the software. Things like its position on your car and the panel, such as near a body line, the edge of a panel, or if the damage is obstructed. These factors help determine how complicated the dent repair will get and how much extra time the job may take.

The software takes everything into account and calculates a final price quote. Once the quote is accepted, Dan schedules a convenient appointment for repairs. However, if the car is ready for repairs, Dan will start the PDR process immediately after the quote is accepted.

How Dent Repair Services Can Save You Time, Hassle, and Money

Dent repair can be a difficult task. No one wants to take time from their busy schedule to take their car to an auto-shop where auto-technicians will likely take hours to fix it. Thankfully, technology has led us to have many options for dent repair now, and many of them can save you time, hassle, and money.

We’ll discuss one of the most used options today, i.e., paintless dent repair

Paintless Dent Repair– What Is It?

Paintless Dent Repair is a non-invasive method of dent repair that technicians can use to fix minor dents on your car’s body. Paintless dent repair doesn’t use any extra material; thus, it will not add to the repair expense. It’s one of the best methods your auto-shop can employ as it has many benefits.

However, the car must qualify for PDR before your auto-shop can fix it for you using the procedure.

Why Should You Pick PDR?

PDR or paintless dent repair has many benefits. Its many benefits are why it’s so popular for fixing dents, and we have listed some of these benefits below.

  • It saves time

PDR is a relatively simple process that will take an experienced technician only a few hours to do.

  • It saves money

As the name suggests, PDR is paintless. Therefore, it doesn’t use any extra paint or material. Since your technician won’t add extra paint or material to costs, you will likely only have to pay for the certified technician’s expertise and labor.

  • It retains your car’s value

The minute you add paint to your car, you’re reducing its value. Since PDR doesn’t use any extra material, including paint, it helps retain your car’s value.

  • Insurance companies acknowledge PDR

Most insurance companies acknowledge and pay for PDR. So, people often opt for it when conducting dent repair. You won’t have to pay for your car out of pocket, and it will look as good as new.

  • It’s good for the environment

With other dent repair methods, auto-technicians use a lot of paint and flames that release harmful gases into the environment. That isn’t the case with PDR.

Due to the reasons given above, you should opt for paintless dent repair whenever you’re taking your car in for dent repair.

Why Choose the Dent Guy

Here, at the Dent Guy, we have professionals with many years of experience who can conduct Paintless Dent Repair in a matter of hours. Don’t attempt a PDR job yourself, as this will likely cost you more time, money, and hassle, all of which you want to avoid.

We have certified technicians with years of experience who know exactly how your car’s body will react to pressure. Additionally, we’ve spent years carefully crafting our tools and techniques so we can offer you the best results, which is why you should leave your car to us.

Large Dents Fixed on Site in Rochester with PDR

It is a commonly believed fact that certified technicians can easily fix small dents using Paintless Dent Removal. However, when it comes to large dents, the perception is often that technicians will need to do more work on them, and since they’re large, you can’t perform PDR on them.

This idea is a perpetuated misconception. The size of dents or dings doesn’t dictate whether or not you can conduct PDR on it. However, the nature of the dent does.

Types of Large Dents That You Can Remove Using PDR

Paintless Dent Removal is a non-invasive method of removing dents from the body of a car. It is commonly used for small dents; however, technicians can use it for large dents. The types of large dents you can remove using PDR are as follows:

  • Round Dents

Round dents are generally the ones that don’t have much creasing or stress applied to any part of the dent and thus are easy to pull out even if the area is large. If any type of creasing is prevalent in the dent, then it is unlikely that even certified technicians will fix this dent completely.

  • Shallow Dents

Dents that aren’t too deep can be easily pulled out using PDR. If the dent isn’t too deep, the panel hasn’t been stretched out too much, and thus, with tools and effective massaging, it is likely to pop right back out.

Furthermore, the deeper your dent is, the more likely has the paint cracked, and once the paint is cracked, the technician will be unable to perform Paintless Dent Repair.

Benefits of Using PDR vs. Traditional Method

You’re probably wondering why you should even consider using Paintless Dent Repair on large dents when you could go with the old traditional method. This is because PDR  has a lot of benefits for your car and conversely also for you.

  • It helps retain the car’s value.

If you have a brand new car, then this is especially useful for you. If you have a large dent and fix it with PDR, make sure you choose this option as PDR doesn’t require any extra paint or body filler which means that car will retain its value.

  • It’s good for the environment.

Since PDR doesn’t use any extra paint or welding, it prevents the release of harmful gases into the environment that may exacerbate climate change. It also saves the auto-technicians from attaining any allergies due to the release of chemicals.

  • It saves your time and money.

Paintless Dent Repair doesn’t use any body filler or paint, and hence your technician doesn’t need to add any external material to make it better. This method saves both money and time as PDR is not invasive.

Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) on a 2020 Subaru Ascent

Not too long ago, a brand-new Subaru Ascent was brought into the Dent Guy repair shop by a local body shop working with the owner.  The car had suffered significant dents and dings, and we’re glad that they brought it in. Dan immediately got to work on it using a method of Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) called Glue Pull Repair.

How is Paintless Dent Repair better than Normal Dent Repair?

In normal dent removal, the damaged panels would be cut off, replaced, and painted. This practice is sure to reduce the value of this brand-new car. The body shop could have also stud weld the dented panel, then used mud and paint. However, stud welding would heat the metal above 400°F and ruin the e-coat on the panel’s backside and change the metal’s temperature. This method would take both time and money, and the body shop knew that Paintless Dent Repair is the least invasive method, so they contacted us.

Dan, one of our certified technicians, used Glue Pull Repair on three sections of the car that otherwise would have had to be sectioned and incised as per Subaru’s guidelines. He could get the smaller dents to look as good as the new. However, with some larger ones, the Glue Pull Repair could only give so much access.

To conduct GPR, he had to do the following:

  1. Remove the taillights.
  2. Apply pull-tabs to the dented area.
  3. Use an electric machine with magnetic heat induction technology to then bring the panel up.
  4. Repeat the action multiple times with the same precision, pressure, and technique.

However, all of this was done in a day and didn’t require any repainting. Working in collaboration with a body shop, Dan couldn’t fix up the car further using Paintless Dent Repair. However, the work was significant and saved the client several hundred dollars worth of work.

Why chose a professional?

  • You don’t have the expertise.

The method of Glue Pull Repair may seem simple in videos, but the only way a certified technician like Dan was able to do this was because he has had years of experience. A technician knows exactly how to pull and repair to maintain the integrity of the contour and body. He knows exactly where to start maintenance and where to end it.

  • You don’t have the tools.

Dan used very different types of tools and glue, which you’re unlikely to have laying around. He used KECO Tab’s Curved Ice and Curved Blue pull tabs to get the dent out. Furthermore, he also used an electric machine with magnetic heat induction to help bring the panel up.

  • It saves time, money, and effort.

If you try to perform paintless dent repair using tools you have lying around, you’re more than likely just going to waste your time and money and further ruin the car’s body. Going to a professional like us is just so much easy.

Removing Crease Dents with PDR

What Are Crease Dents, and Can They Be Fixed Using PDR?

Crease dents or line dents are caused when the car’s body has an impact on an object and then is dragged along it. These seem like more complex dents and might require more time to fix, but they can be repaired using paintless dent repair. Crease and line dents are likely to stretch the metal more, which is why it is assumed that PDR cannot fix them. However, we’re here to tell you that this is completely possible given the right conditions.

Why Is It Important to Repair Crease Dents Early?

  • It could cost you less

The environment doesn’t affect fresh dents immediately, and thus there will be no atmospheric damage to fix costing you less when you get it fixed.

  • It could lead to rusting

If the crease or line dent has an opening, water might invade the space. This might get to the metal body and cause rusting problems in your vehicle.

  •  It will enable your safety

Dents are already a sore spot on the vehicle. If this area gets hit again by coincidence, it will damage the car and compromise your safety.

  • It will maintain the value of your car

Regardless of how well your car is functioning, a dent on any car is likely to reduce its value. A car with many dents also gives its owner the image of someone who doesn’t value themselves and so you should fix it as soon as possible.

  • Use a professional to get it checked

You might think that you can fix a crease dent on your own, but all that will eventually do is exacerbate the problem. Crease dents are more complicated than normal dents, which is why you should opt to seek out a professional and ask them to fix them using Paintless Dent Repair.

Why You Should Seek Out a Licensed or Certified PDR Technician Instead of Attempting to Do It Yourself

Speaking of Paintless Dent Repair, you mustn’t try to do it yourself. Regardless of what dent repair kits might claim, there is a great chance that fixing a crease dent yourself can end up making a mess. It would be best if you didn’t do this because the repair might cost you more time and money than is necessary for such a task.

Furthermore, certified PDR technicians are present for a reason. They have more information on how the car’s metal body reacts and how best to repair the crease dent in a way that maintains the integrity of the paint-job and the car.

Nissan Rogue Quarter Panel Repair with PDR

At The Dent Guy in Rochester, New York, we specialize in removing dents and repairing dings from vehicles through paintless dent repair, or PDR. We provide high quality service and guarantee 100% customer satisfaction, with minimal intrusion to your car. So when we have repeat customers, recommendations from auto body shops or referrals from car dealers for dent restoration, we are proud that they recognize our work.

What is PDR?

PDR is a cost-effective method of repairing body creases or minor dents on your car that may have been caused by a hailstorm, a car door or even acorns. To perform PDR, the certified technician will typically massage the dent out from the back panel of the vehicle, where the dent is located, utilizing PDR tools or use of the glue-pulling method to repair it.

PDR is more affordable than taking your car to a traditional auto body shop because it does not require drilling into the car panel or use of body fillers; therefore, making it also environmentally friendly. Since this process is much simpler, it also takes less time to repair (depending on the extent of the damage).

How PDR was performed on the Nissan Rogue

A 2015 Nissan Rogue, a compact SUV, was brought into the shop with quite a big dent in the quarter panel of the car.

For this job, Dan Rechichi, master technician and owner of The Dent Guy, removed the majority of the dent with the glue pulling  method. As always, Dan, does a great job in getting out the initial damage. The quarter panel of a car is usually difficult to repair because of the lack of access and proper glue pulling experience is required to successfully complete the job.

Glue pulling is often mistaken for suction cups, however, it is a meticulous and very detailed method of removing dents. You can see in the footage below that Dan is constantly changing the angle of the PDR light so that he can get a clearer view of the damaged area and work on it even better. The PDR lights allow technicians to see high and low spots better and get them out with extreme precision. With some reshaping to the metal in the damaged area, Dan can clean and buff the panel to get it ready for the customer to pick up.
